The field athletic training falls under will be the Kinesiology major field. Kinesiology is a great path to go down if you want to be an athletic trainer or a PT/OPT because you can learn about the movement of the body and helping people with injury’s when they are injured.

The athletic training field uses the IMRAD Structure because you have to talk about yourself and why you might want to be that, and you will be able to talk about what this field is and what it does. At the end there is results and you can have discussion at the end maybe have them with the athlete you are treating for that injury, and you can tell them about their results in a discussion.

The type of language that is expected in the athletic training field is maybe impersonal depending on how you view the field in the viewer eyes that are trying to be and athletic trainer. It is impersonal because you can say “this report can show you” instead of writing “I will show” for a more professional saying.

I would use references like using a journal from a resent professional athletic trainer explaining their story of becoming an athletic trainer through their own eyes. I could find books based off of this field or related to this field that I want to be in.

All of this is important for me to learn so I know what I am walking into going into this direction. Using SLR should be important no matter what your field is that you’re going into. My field could go into any Structure I think depending how you look at it, the language should be professional because of the type of job you get. My references should always be resent date or close to it so it can me more accurate when they look at it.

SLR in Recreational Therapy

Structure, language, and reference are three key factors when it comes to academic writing. This is especially true when you are writing within your desired major or career field. Personally, I am an aspiring Recreational Therapist, which falls under applied sciences. For this field, I must keep in mind the structure, language, and references for any writing I do because it will be key in providing information for me, other professionals, and any of my patients.

For this career, I might be writing reports or evaluations, so the structure of how I write these reports or documents is crucial. I must be neat and professional, while also following the guidelines of healthcare’s writing standards. Most documents I will write will be looked at by other healthcare professionals, so I will more than likely use professional terms and language. However, if I am writing up a report that will be shared with a patient, I might use more practical words and will keep things simple. I also must follow the APA style if I am writing a paper or research report. This is what all applied science disciplines follow, so it is important that I use the correct references when completing the paper along with my citations.

These are all extremely important to me because being a Recreational Therapists comes with lots of record keeping, repots, and overall professional writing. I must know how to structure my papers, the appropriate language to use, and the correct references to use. These three things will ensure that I am efficiently writing in the workplace and keeping up good standards of writing.

Using language, structure, and references is important for students to learn now so that they will be on the right track once they enter the work force. Writing is critical to all aspects of life and work, so being able to write professionally and correctly now will be beneficial through all walks of life. Learning about SLR now also gives you the room to grow and improve on those skills so once you are ready to venture into the work force you will be prepared and have experience with good academic writing designed for you.

SLR

SLR is very important in many different ways: finding/ talking about a career or field, reflecting on writing or just working on a paper/ project in general. When using SLR in my career path it helps me with a sort of organization method. When working in the Health and Physical Education field we will most likely use APA formatting. I feel that being in a health and physical education field, our language is mostly likely up to date information and also very eye opening. When teaching kids in a health and physical education class, teachers want to help reach out to students in the most respectful way possible.

When teaching it’s best to be able to have a bond with the students so that they can understand the importance of their health and physical education. Speaking to the kids we have to make sure our language is understood so students can understand what’s going on in the classroom. When talking about different references in the health and physical education field it’s best to pay attention to the social, cultural, and emotional effects on children.

Working on these methods with students can help them a lot with being encouraged to do something in their life. I feel that it’s best to get the understanding of SLR now because you will get a better understanding of what you’re supposed to talk about in future classrooms. Another reason I feel that it’s important is because organization is the biggest key success when it comes to academic writing. Making sure you’re organized will help you present much better to your audience to where they can get a better understanding on what you look forward to doing in and out of the classroom. Therefore, practicing now with providing a great amount of information will help you in the future and probably encourage others with starting SLR now until later.

SLR in Criminal Justice

I would like to pursue a career in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Working for the FBI and other government security agengies falls into the Criminal Justice field. The criminal justice field uses the ALA format and this is because ALA is most commonly used in social science fields. ALA is used as a research structure when citing sources for their documents, articles, and reports. When writing these things it is important for them to be precise, punctual, and directed to the correct professional audience. Punctuality is important do to the fast pace, ever-changing nature in this field. While preciseness and audience is important because precise accurate information when proceeding court cases and criminal involvement is highly important. Missed judgments and false imprisonment are all products of miss interpretation of evidence and supports. Lastly, audience is important because dealing with co-workers, judges, families of a criminal, and others in the criminal justice field are all vastly different audiences. Hints the importance of addressing the correct audience not only in the beginning of your writing but throughout the entirety of the writing piece.

Learning these things before entering this field is highly important. You should be educated in what is expected of you when you enter your career path. Things like structure, organization, format, and tone and voice are all equally important when writing in your career. Managers, bosses, and all higher-ups are looking for the best in the position to perform and exceed their expectations. Having a strong knowledge in typical formatting and structure needed to know in your field is something all professionals will be looking for to differentiate between candidates for promotions and other jobs.

To find this information out about your career path In specific. You can research these things through scholarly articles, .gov sources, and other reliable sources. You can also ask other individuals in your specific field. These things will help to better inform you on what is important for you to know about SLR regarding what your specific career or field that you are interesting in pursuing.

 

SLR and Education in the Social Science Field

Education majors fall under the social science umbrella. This is also true of majors like psychology, communication, social work, and museology. Thus, I’d need to use the IMRaD format when writing papers, especially research papers. In fact, I’ve already written a research paper using IMRaD format for my EDUC 245 class; my researched question involved ADHD. As someone with ADHD siblings, it was the most natural topic for me.

IMRaD papers, in case you’ve forgotten from the readings, has different sections for the introduction (or abstract), methods, results, and discussion. So, the ‘a’ in IMRaD comes from ‘and.’ While writing my paper, I found that the style of IMRaD papers flows well and divvies up the information into digestible quantities.

As far as language goes, I have found it’s a good idea to use qualifiers, like the book mentions. Words like ‘might,’ ‘could,’ and ‘likely’ fit into this. In general, social science papers should be concise and formal. This means broad adjectives, like ‘super’ and ‘very,’ should be avoided since they are not specific or precise enough to be presented as factual. It’s easy for the mind to drift away from precision; I often find that the longer I try to focus, the more my paragraphs look like my unfiltered train of thought threw up on the Google Doc. So, I know it’s important to know what words to avoid, so when I edit my papers, I know what words to swap out, or trash altogether.

 

Regarding types of reference, education majors should end up using APA in the classes for their specific majors. APA applies to many of the social sciences.

It’s very important for college students to understand how the different parts of SLR applies to them personally. We’ll all be taking more and more classes for our specific majors as time goes on and will need to know how to write appropriate papers for our fields of study. Researching that information now is best because by the time we’re consistently writing papers of our field’s style, we should already be familiar with the structure, language, and reference will need to use.
