SLR in Athletic Training

The field athletic training falls under will be the Kinesiology major field. Kinesiology is a great path to go down if you want to be an athletic trainer or a PT/OPT because you can learn about the movement of the body and helping people with injury’s when they are injured.

The athletic training field uses the IMRAD Structure because you have to talk about yourself and why you might want to be that, and you will be able to talk about what this field is and what it does. At the end there is results and you can have discussion at the end maybe have them with the athlete you are treating for that injury, and you can tell them about their results in a discussion.

The type of language that is expected in the athletic training field is maybe impersonal depending on how you view the field in the viewer eyes that are trying to be and athletic trainer. It is impersonal because you can say “this report can show you” instead of writing “I will show” for a more professional saying.

I would use references like using a journal from a resent professional athletic trainer explaining their story of becoming an athletic trainer through their own eyes. I could find books based off of this field or related to this field that I want to be in.

All of this is important for me to learn so I know what I am walking into going into this direction. Using SLR should be important no matter what your field is that you’re going into. My field could go into any Structure I think depending how you look at it, the language should be professional because of the type of job you get. My references should always be resent date or close to it so it can me more accurate when they look at it.

  1. This blog post immediately got my attention due to the fact that I am a Kinesiology major as well. I haven’t decided whether I want to go AT or PT route. For the longest time I just knew I wanted to do something in that area. I believe being a Kinesiology major can set you up for success in your future. It is awesome that Athletic trainers help injured athletes feel better and possibly get back into the game. Athletic trainers are known for the medical part, but many of times Athletic trainers can help with mental health.
I also believe the field of Athletic training goes by IMRAD. IMRAD stands for Introduction, Methods, Results, and discussion. These four parts plays a good part when Athletic trainers have to write up reports. Introduction is important because it introduces the problem that the athlete has. Methods is important because that is the methods Athletic trainers use to treat them. Results is important because it shows results on how well the method worked. Discussion is important between the Athletic trainer and athlete because it gives both of them a better understanding of what is going on.
I would also use journals from current Athletic trainers as well. It can be important in this field that your sources that you are looking at is peer reviewed.
I also believe SLR is an important aspect of any field someone goes in. It is important looking at dates the articles or journals was published because information can be out of date. I think as of today it is best to at least look at 2020 and newer. Athletic training is in the medical field so it is best to stay very up to date. I do agree that the language should be professional when working with athletes, but I also believe it can be beneficial to athletes if you are not using professional talk all the time. Some athletes may get a better understanding.
