In the book Freshman Year Sarah communicated about her registration for the next semester. She totally forgot about it and then ended up having to go to her advisor. Although I was not late on my registration I had many problems with signing up for classes. As an elementary education major classes go very fast as many individuals here at longwood are in the same major. I ended up having to reach out to my advisor about what classes I should take to still get the degree I want in the timely manner. After talking with my advisor I finally got a few more classes I needed.
Sarah also mentioned studying for finals. Although finals still feel so far away they really aren’t in the long run. I have started to prepare slowly for my finals, so I’m not so packed the week before studying even though I still will be.
As I signed up for next semester classes I started to worry on how well I will do with some of my classes. I am having to take political science which is not a strong spot in my studies as I don’t have much past experience. This class will be a challenge for me as I am already thinking about how much I will need to actually sit down and study.
I have not really thought that much about spring break as I have other breaks on my mind right now. The closer spring break gets the more I will look forward to it. My parents are both higher up in their jobs, so we don’t normally do anything for spring break. Although as a family we don’t do much, my friends and I have thought about possibly taking a few day trip somewhere. If that plan does not work out I would like to possibly work at my job right now or even start to sub at schools close by.
Talking about breaks, summer is one that is always on my mind. Summer break is one of my favorite times throughout the year. As of right now my plan for the summer is to work and travel as much as possible. After realizing how much money I spend here at school I need to make sure I pick up shifts over the summer. Although I’ll be spending most of my time at work I do plan to do fun things as well. I already have two trips planned. One of going on a family beach trip and another a friend beach trip that will also include going to a concert to see one of my favorite artists.
Hi Lauryn!
I am very glad to hear that you were not late on your registration but am sorry that you had many problems signing up for classes. I was also on time for my registration but experienced some issues signing up for my desired classes as well. I was fortunate enough to get my required number of credits, but was a little upset not being able to get into a language class that I have been attempting to register for since the summer. Registration day was stressful but at least we got through our first one… hopefully the next one goes better than this one did!
I think it is really good that you have started to slowly prepare for your finals. I cannot believe that they are already almost here. As I begin to think about them, I am getting slightly stressed and should probably start to prepare for them as well, hoping that doing that would take a little bit of stress off. I wish you the best of luck in preparing for finals and know you will do great on all of them.
I am sorry to hear that you are already worrying about the classes you will be taking next semester. Knowing that you have to take a class that is not your strongest subject can be really daunting, especially seeing that it creates a negative mindset prior to beginning the class. I can definitely relate to this, as I have to take a math class next semester that I am really worried about. I enjoy math sometimes, but this kind of math I do not enjoy at all so I am nervous to see how it will go.
I completely relate to not thinking too much about spring break yet, as my mind is fully on the thanksgiving break, we have in 2 weeks and our winter break that comes after. I could not be more excited to go home for a break. Despite the fact I have not thought much about it I do already have plans for spring break, so I am excited about that! Hopefully your plan works out with your friends to take a few day trips somewhere because I am sure that would be really fun!
Your summer break plans sound so fun! I am also always thinking about the summer. I love the beach so much and I cannot wait to go back this summer. I also can relate to having to work a lot this summer. After learning how much money I spend here I know I will definitely need to be working a lot more than I did summer.
I wish you the best of luck in the rest of your semester and hope that all of our upcoming breaks go well for you! We are almost at the end!!
All the best,
Molly Layne
In your blog post, you mentioned how it was difficult to get into your classes for registration as an elementary education major, I relate to your struggles during registration. Like you said, Sarah was stressed because she waited until the last minute to register. Although I was well prepared for registration with my plans set, I came across the same issue with not being able to get all of the classes that I needed to begin with. This caused me a lot of anxiety for the few days that I was searching for a solution. Luckily for me, a new section of a class opened up, so I was able to fill my schedule.
In regards to the political science class that you are worried about, I am confident that you will do well. I am currently enrolled in the political science class that you are planning to take next semester and I had the same kinds of doubts about how I would perform in the class. Just like you I was concerned about my lack of experience in the subject. Now that it is close to the end of the semester, I can confidently say that I am doing well and it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I expected it to be. You will have to put in work, but it is nothing that isn’t manageable.
Your plans for spring break sound very exciting and I hope that you and your friends are able to do something fun, as well as be able to spend some time with your family. Your idea to possibly substitute at a school makes me excited, as I am also an elementary education major. If you do end up trying that, I’m sure you will have a great time.
I love that you are planning to travel! It sounds like you have a lot to look forward to this upcoming summer and you will be busy. I like that you are trying to balance out your work and free time to make sure you have time for yourself to do what you want to do as well.
