One of my favorite chapters that I have read so far this semester has to be “Strategic Reading” because the author talks about assembling information from multiple sources, and how the sources that a writer uses, gives the reader clues that lead to additional formation. I found this very important because sources can let us know if something is credible or not. This chapter also provided information on how books from our own time often contain a lot of different kinds of text. While reading the Freshman book, I learned that Sarah is stressed out with all of her upcoming assignments that she has and she just had a bad breakup with her boyfriend. Sarah starts to focus more on school and make new friends along the way. My favorite chapter in “They say ,I say “has to be “Three Ways to Respond” because the author explains how students come to realize that good arguments are based not on knowledge that only a special class of experts has access to but on everyday habits of mind that can be isolated, identified, and used by almost anyone. This fascinated me because it made me realize that critical thinking, reasoning, was more reliable when making an argument rather than just having the knowledge. In Academic Writing, the chapter “Academic Research” provided me with the knowledge that the first type of sources that we should use when doing research should be peer-reviewed journal articles. I found this helpful because just like the audience, I would have thought the first source that I should review when doing research would be the library’s books. Although I have grown over the years with my writing, I feel that there is still room for improvement. The reason I say this is because I have a bad habit of using the same choice of words and I do not organize my paragraphs. To become a better writer I plan to spend more time at the writing center and learn how to expand my vocabulary while staying organized. The bright side of it is that I know how to provide good background evidence to one side of an argument. While reading academic writing, I also learned that structure deals with how texts are organized, Language encompasses convention of style or word choice and Reference coincides with the way writers engage source material, including their use of conventions of citation and documentation. |
