What Would YOU Do for F’eedom?

What would you do for the freedom you enjoy every . . . single . . . day!!!?

Think about the pages you’ve read for this week and then think about the following questions to help you decide what lengths you would go to for the right to go to school to get an education, to have the right to vote, to apply to any college you wish, to apply to any job you want AND be considered if your qualify.

  1. Who are you as an activist?
  2. What role/s have you played or can you see yourself playing?
  3. What type of activism do you see at work in today’s society?
  4. Is it effective and why or why not??

I argue that EVERYONE is an activist in one way or another. What is your way?

  1. For freedom, I would go to great lengths. I’d march, fight, and maybe even flee to a place where I might have the liberties I desire. This would only happen if I didn’t live in America or didn’t get the freedoms I do. Many individuals live in areas where those who do not have the same privileges as we do in America in this decade. I myself could not imagine having to struggle for the right to attend school, let alone the freedom to attend any establishment or apply for any job. I would do anything for these rights if I knew they may be obtained one day and I didn’t have them before. When I say anything, I’m indicating that I’d do something unlawful or simply move things to get people to listen to me. I’m not much of an activist, and I don’t get involved in a lot of hot things. I try to stay away from any liberal themes because I dread confrontation, and because people in today’s society are so sensitive, it’s difficult to discuss them. I really like how you brought in how supportive you are about the Pitt bull breed and what you would do to support them. I don’t mind the breed but some owners make them aggressive and don’t handle them well. I agree that we shouldn’t see all these dogs in the shelter and raise money to help shelters and other adoption places to give them money to support their animals. People treat animals so meanly and owners can be disgusting with the specific choices they make owning an animal. While my time in Aruba I saw many stray animals and it broke my heart seeing these animals on the side of the road walking along, chained to a tree, and begging for food. People in today’s society should have more care for the world. I’ve seen a lot of race activism in today’s culture, and the desire to raise your own people as well as others that are struggling is growing every day. So that’s the major form of activity I’m seeing in my neighborhood right now. I believe I could claim it is, but it is also ineffective. I say it’s effective because there’s been a lot of change, or you could say we’ve taken strides toward a country where all races are treated equally, demonstrating that people will eventually listen and alter their minds. I answer no because the social construct of us categorizing people who appear different and have various names results in the implementation of a natural scale system. As a result, one race may see another as “higher” or “lowest.” I believe that everyone, in some way or another, can be an activist. I believe you have the potential to be an activist if you are passionate about something in your heart. I would add that people take life for granted because they do not appreciate how valuable it is until it is stripped away from them.
